Dear
Educator:
The Blue Ridge Apple Growers Ladies Auxiliary, a non-profit volunteer
organization of growers' wives, has developed this "North
Carolina Apple Educational Kit". Our goal is to educate all
students in North Carolina about apples and the apple industry.
Below are links to the different parts of the kit in Adobe Acrobat
format.
We would like to encourage you to help your students learn more
about agriculture and the apple industry. It is our feeling that
with the use of this kit, many subjects can be incorporated into
an "Apple Unit." The kit encompasses many areas of the
state curriculum: Communication Skills, Healthful Living, Math,
Science, Social Studies and Visual Arts. Please feel free to copy
any of the sheets in the kit for use in your classroom.
Many of the activities lend themselves naturally to cooperative
learning. Small group or partner work is recommended throughout
the unit. Students who talk with each other about the topic investigated
often reach a higher level of knowledge and understanding than
students who are asked only to perform pencil and paper tasks.
Enclosed with this kit you will find a questionnaire. Please return
the questionnaire after you have used these materials. Your input
and ideas will help us as we make modifications to further develop
this program.
We hope that these materials will be helpful to you and that you
will find your "Apple Unit" to be a wonderful learning
experience.
